How did Study NSW delivery over 1000 WIL experiences to international students in two years?



Overview:

The StudyNSW Global Scope program has delivered work integrated learning experiences to more than 1000 international students since 2016, driving a new model for how universities can deliver real-world working experience at scale.

This e-poster will share insights into how a StudyNSW-funded initiative created a scalable and sustainable program. The presenters will discuss how they used partnership and technology to successfully scale this program to students, mentors and project clients through a variety of functions and activities. It will include perspectives on the challenges, facilitation strategies, best practices for coordination and outcomes of this regional WIL program.

Ms Alison Li

Alison Li, once an international student from Dalian in China, now leads one of Intersective's core work integrated learning programs. She is passionate about helping student and industry participants to maximise their experience and enjoys facilitating workshops and projects to bridge the gap between study and work. She has helped to manage three diverse work integrated learning programs – Global Scope, NEXT Innovation Accelerator and CAMP. She has worked on strategy and operations, consulting, business culture, business analysis and development. Alison promotes collaboration between enterprises, government agencies and individuals with different cultural backgrounds, and provides project support to multicultural teams to overcome challenges and deliver successful and innovative outcomes. Alison holds a Master of Professional Accounting from University of Technology Sydney and a Bachelor of Quantitative Finance from Australian National University. She is fluent in Mandarin and is a NAATI-qualified professional translator in English and Mandarin.

Peter Mackey joined NSW Trade and Investment in October 2014 as Director, StudyNSW. Before this, Peter spent seven years with the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and was posted offshore from 2010–14 as Trade Commissioner in Hanoi and later Singapore. During this time, he led Austrade’s regional education team as Education Commissioner, ASEAN. Peter joined Austrade in December 2007 in Sydney as Senior Industry Adviser, Education and Business Services. Peter’s background has been primarily in the education and training and ICT sectors over the past 20 years. This has included a variety of roles in the secondary, higher education and ELICOS sectors as well as the private sector. Before joining Austrade, Peter spent nine years with an export-oriented educational software business that originated from UNSW, ultimately in the role of General Manager.
